Oral tetracycline phosphate complex (Tetrex) in the treatment of non-specific urethritis.

چکیده
The role of the tetracyclines is well established in the treatment of non-specific urethritis (NSU). This paper reports a ttrial of orally-administered tetracycline phosphate complex (Tetrex), a combination of acidified sodium hexametaphosphate with acidified tetracycline hydrochloride in the ratio of 3:1. This preparation is said to be absorbed from the alimentary tract more efficiently than the hydrochloride combination and to give blood concentrations twice as high (Shidlovsky, Prigot, Maynard, Felix, and Hjelt-Harvey, 1958). These properties, it is claimed, give the phosphate complex an advantage over other tetracycline analogues in that effective blood levels can be maintained with a 12-hour dosage regimen (Olon and Holvey, 1968). The promised advantages of ease of administration and convenience to the patient, together with the experience of one of us (Statham and Morton, 1968) in the use of Tetrex PMT, a parenteral preparation of rolitetracycline nitrate, led us to believe that a trial of oral tetracycline phosphate complex should be undertaken.

Non-specific urethritis treated with pyrrolidinomethyl tetracycline nitrate.
The oral tetracyclines, especially oxytetracycline, are established in the treatment of non-specific urethritis, but oral therapy has the disadvantage that drugs have to be taken at stated times in set doses. Patients attending Venereal Diseases clinics are especially unreliable in this respect since they tend to stop taking the tablets when symptoms subside. Tetracyclines for injection, in the...

With an agreed success rate of about 85 per cent. the role of oral oxytetracycline hydrochloride in the treatment of non-specific urethritis was firmly established a decade ago. Other oral tetracyclines have proved of similar value. While the results obtained with intramuscular oxytetracycline and other tetracyclines have been comparable, the incidence of pain at the injection site has been suc...

متن کاملControlled trial of methacycline and tetracycline in the treatment of non-specific urethritis.
Methacycline is more quickly absorbed and possibly more slowly cleared than tetracycline; it has a longer duration of action and it produces higher serum levels and higher antibacterial levels in vitro (Kunin, 1962; Remington and Finland, 1962; Te-Wen Chang and Weinstein, 1962; Limson and Guevara, 1963). To determine whether it might be more effective than tetracycline in the treatment of non-s...

The place of oral oxytetracycline hydrochloride (Terramycin) therapy in the treatment of nongonococcal urethritis (N.G.U.) is well established (Harkness, 1953; Willcox, 1957; Morton and Read, 1957). Success rates of about 85 per cent. are above those obtained by other antibiotics, sulphomanides, or a combination of these. The trial reported below was undertaken at a time when a degree of penici...
